We are excited to announce a curated educational journey for immersive, hands-on learning about America! This week-long journey will cover the most impactful locations in and around Boston. Homeschoolers ages 10-18 are welcome to apply to attend. After completing this journey, parents may assign educational credit in the topics of American History, American Literature, American Art & Architecture, and/or American Social Studies. Overview:
Experiencing America: Boston
A hands-on, immersive and experiential week-long learning journey for junior high and high school students presented by Masterpoint. This class presents American History, American Literature, and American Art, Architecture & Culture in a real and practical way by physically visiting the locations where history took place. On the tour students will be taken to historically significant locations and explore museums pertaining to the events. Participation in this tour is suggested for high school students and mature middle school students. This is an activity packed trip that will explore the American Experience thematically. Following the trip the students will be able to identify the major aspects of American History, Culture, Attitude, and Innovation that has become the essence of American Citizenship.
What it costs: Contact us for most recent cost. What’s included: admission tickets to museums, productions, attractions, etc., and 1:3 tutor/student ratio. Itinerary: Students will explore Boston, MA and surrounding areas.
Day 1: Freedom Trail: Boston Common, Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church, Granary Burying Ground, King’s Chapel Burying Ground, Old Corner Bookstore, Old South Meeting House, Old State House, Boston Massacre Site, Faneuil Hall.
Day 2: Liberty’s Ride: Lexington Battle Green, Buckman Tavern, Hancock-Clarke House, Munroe Tavern, Paul Revere’s Capture Site, Meriam’s Corner, Orchard House, Colonial Inn, Old Manse, Concord Museum, The Wayside, Emerson House, North Bridge, Paul Revere’s House, Bunker Hill.
Day 3: America’s Literary History: Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s House of Seven Gables, Henry David Thoreau’s Concord Museum.
Day 4: American Shipbuilding: Visit ‘Old Ironsides’ and one of the first shipyards in the US, the USS Constitution Museum, and complete a Historic Boston Harbor Tour.
Day 5: America’s First Landing: Visit Plimoth Patuxet Living History Museum, Wampanoag Homesite,17th Century English Village recreation, and the Mayflower II and, Plymouth Rock.
Day 6: America’s Art: The Maparium Experience, Museum of Fine Arts, New England Aquarium
Day 7: America’s Judgement and Education: Salem, MA, Harvard Green, Beacon Hill Bookstore
Preparation: Students should expect to be walking a lot and have adequate shoes to make this comfortable. Additionally, students need to be committed to traveling in a small group through the different locations. Students will sign a code of conduct that they must adhere to during the immersive journey, if there are infractions students will be removed from the trip and no money will be refunded.
