Mathematics of the World is an interdisciplinary course that fuses mathematical concepts, geography, history, and cultural studies to inspire students and help them see the beauty of what can be DONE with mathematics, above and beyond the daily drill of completing rudimentary math problems. The book is written from a Judeo-Christian perspective and offers “ideas to talk about” that regularly reference this philosophy as well as compare various religious world views.
Each of 16 chapters studies a different geographical or historical people and includes text describing the topic, relevant vocabulary words, discussion questions and hands on activities. Each chapter is designed to cover a span of two weeks, making this a 32-week curriculum. This is not an open-and-go curriculum, the instructor will need to obtain additional items for the hands-on activity suggested in each chapter.
People groups and/or geographical areas studied are the Navajo, United States, Aztec, Inca, Maya, Europe, Ireland, Russia, China, Japan, Korea, India, Babylon, Arabia, Africa and Egypt.
The book is designed to be used in conjunction with the Climb 1 year of Masterpoint Curriculum (7th grade) but would be appropriate for both junior high and high school students studying independently.

We use many resources on this Etsy page: My friend and I found this Etsy page 1.5 years ago when starting a new co-op. Climb and (soon-to-be) Summit have really been a great fit for our older students. We will have Climb 1, 2 and 4 next year in our co-op. Along with co-directing our co-up, I taught Climb 3 this past year and especially loved her La Vida Loca Finance game. Also: JJ as the creator is always quick to respond to any question about her materials. I recommend this to anyone in the 7-12 grade levels. Whether you are at home or using in a co-op, this is easy to use and has the full scope and sequence from grades 7-12 along with blank transcripts in the back of Climb 3, 4 & Summit 1, and 2. Thank you, JJ, for this resource!
